Mantra of Success

When do we fail?

Life has been called a unique combination of success and defeat. In fact, both complement each other. If a person has not tasted defeat, he will not be able to enjoy his success. Another aspect is that the bricks of a person’s success are laid on the foundations of the other person’s defeat.
It sometimes happens that we lose even if we win. We have a crowning success but the crown seems to be made of thorns at times. All the fame sounds so worthless. In such situations, inspite of our victory some shortfalls are there that don’t let us bask in the glory of our success.

Winning or losing in a competition is not the win or loss in the real sense of the terms. Often we say that hope sustains life. So we lose only when we no longer believe in being tied to the string of hope and we shift our residence to the dark and dreary lanes of dejection and disappointment. Our defeat is not in doing a work in the wrong manner, rather it is when we come to the conclusion that we can never finish that work properly. We are not a loser just because we keep thinking of the past; we lose when in delving into the past we forget to move ahead.
We are not to be considered defeated when our dreams are not transformed to reality; but we are definitely defeated when after crashing of our dreams we stop dreaming. As Dr. Abdul Kalam has said, ‘dream is not something that we see in our sleep, dream is something that doesn’t let you sleep’. Hence, if we keep lamenting over an unfulfilled dream, we can never dream to being victorious in the race of life.
We are not defeated when we are misquoted and misunderstood. Instead we are when we are unable to convey what we intend to. Defeat is not when we are not able to say what we want to; it is when you cannot even speak the language of silence. Getting beaten at the hands of your enemy is not defeat; it is when we are unable to make friends with our enemies.
Whenever there is a war, no one wins. It is only humanity that is sacrificed at the altar of bloodshed and violence. The heaps of dead bodies can never be symbolic of a victory! Death does not win by defeating life because fear of death is there only till life is there; death is nothing more than just a moment.
Even otherwise victory and defeat are not the things that will remain stable forever. It is only our viewpoint that we let the two dominate our whole life. While sometimes even a small win can give us loads of happy memories, at other times being unable to forget a defeat we keep crying over it.
The long and short of it is that we might consider it our defeat when some of our prayers are not answered. What makes that defeat permanent is when we start questioning God over them. We are, indeed, defeated when we give up believing in God if he doesn’t give us the kind of wealth we want for ourselves or the job of our dreams or luck in married life. Quite often it happens that we try to strike a deal with God as if He can be tempted with precious offerings. “Please God give me good a raise in my salary and I will offer ‘parsad’ of one hundred rupees.” Now if that deal does not materialize later on, it’s not God, who failed; it’s our defeat because we have already sown the seeds in offering such a bargain. Have unflinching faith in the efforts that you put in and keep inching forward with unfaltering positive attitude, God will be by your side. And then even if a few of your dreams don’t see the light of reality, even if you falter sometimes when it was most important to display courage, you won’t be defeated, you won’t be a loser. God will make you win at all times and in all conditions.
